I’m Back / Goals 2018

Goals 2018

Its taken me nearly a month and a half to recover from 2017. I know most people have their goals for the year ahead figured out by December or early January, but I really needed to take that time to reflect and decide what I really want the next year of my life (and beyond) to look like.

Get A New Job
I quit my job a few weeks ago. It wasn’t an easy decision and there are a lot of reasons for it. But long story short, it just wasn’t the right place for me anymore. Hunting for a new job stresses me out a little, but at the same time I’m excited about what the future holds.

Take Better Care of Me
The past year and a half were hard and I really neglected myself, both physically and mentally. I started this year with taking steps to turn that around, and I want to continue that.

Get Into a Blogging Routine
I really enjoy blogging. But I’ve neglected this little space of mine for quite sometime. I fell out of it. I never seemed to have the time to dedicate to it. I couldn’t find the right things to say. I didn’t seem to be connecting with the community. And I didn’t have a lot of support IRL. But now I have the time, a supportive husband, and I’ve connected with a few fellow bloggers (Hey there Janine!), and I’m more motivated than ever to really get into this.

See and Do More
This one is kind of broad, but I just want to start living my life more. Spend less time doing nothing. I want to travel more, even if that doesn’t mean leaving the province. I want to spend more time with friends. Have more fun.

To kick things off Beverly and I just booked a weekend at Ome for this summer. I can’t wait to see what a little slice of our island has to offer.

Push Myself Out Of My Comfort Zone
This has always been something I have struggled with. I very easily get comfortable with what I am doing and then will not go out of my comfort zone. Its why I stayed at my last job so long. Its why I find it difficult to go to yoga or the gym alone. Its why I wear almost the exact same make up everyday. And its why I won’t wear a lot of clothes even though I love them.

I’m working on all of these things, and I’m working on pushing myself outside my comfort zone in the kitchen as well.

Read 20 Books
I love to read. Seriously. I do. I could read all day, and all night and only stop for pee breaks and brief naps. But I hardly read a single book the past few years. For some reason I find it difficult to allow myself to have the time to lose myself in a book.

I started the year off with Molly’s Game and thinking about this one next.

It’s feeling pretty great to be back.

Life Lately

It’s been a hot minute since I checked in around here.

Life has been crazy. There have been a lot of ups and downs. Really high highs and terribly low lows.

The lows have sucked every ounce of inspiration out of me. But I’m trying very hard to get that back.

I got things started by changing a few things up. Like switching from Blogger to WordPress. Which was fairly simple, but I’m still working a few kinks out. I considered not posting until everything was fixed and perfect. But who knows when that will happen. So I’m just jumping back on the posting train.

Lets catch up a little shall we?

Currently I’m…

Eating – Mint Girl Guide cookies. They’re one of my favourite things about fall.

Drinking – A large glass of Cave Spring Riesling.

Watching – I’m finally giving Grace & Frankie a try and I’m really liking it so far.

Reading – I just bought All the Missing Girls by Megan Miranda. I typically don’t go for this type of book, but this kind of story is exactly the type of tv show or movie that I enjoy. So I’m looking forward to finding out if that interest carries over.

Loving –  That most of my favourite shows are back. Here’s looking at you Grey’s Anatomy, Chicago Fire, How to Get Away with Murder. And I’m seriously loving Law & Order: True Crime.

Wanting to buy – This Gap dress. I just wish it was a different material. I really prefer something less sheer and a little thicker material when the weather gets cooler.

Doing – For the past few weeks I’ve been refinishing a few pieces of furniture in my living/dining room. I’ve been sharing a few updates on Snapchat and Insta Stories.

What’s been going on with you lately?

Thoughts on a Friday

I feel like I haven’t been able to catch my balance all week. We’ve begun renovations on our basement, our entire house is covered in gyproc dust and cleaning has been futile, we’ve had company stay with us the past few nights, and at work I’ve been pulled in 100 different directions and feeling like I haven’t accomplished much. So, instead of a “What to Buy During the Sephora VIB Sale” post (VIBs get 15% off with the code VIBSPRING), here’s a bunch of random thoughts that have crossed my mind lately. You’re welcome.

One from our honeymoon (Gulfport, Florida)
– The Tim Horton’s Drive Thru; When you order chili, why must they put the little butters in the bag with it? Its always melted when I get home.
– I read all the pregnancy posts. You would think that these things would not interest me, because I am in no way wanting to procreate any time soon. But nope, I love the bumpdates, the nursery posts, and the must have lists. Perhaps they’re preparing me for the future, but mostly I’m just educating myself on what to buy for baby showers.
– Why is writing Thank You cards so hard? I’m the worst bride ever. 7 months later, and they’re still not all out. Do not be like me. Be better than me.
– I really need to start using my slow cooker. It would help with my #goals.
– How does everyone get those nice shots from above them? I’m seriously asking. All I get is a whole lot of selfie arm.
– Why does weight loss need to be so hard? And why does it take so damn long?
– I had to go buy more hangers at Walmart again. Who knew we had so much clothes? I guess we’ve never hit Laundry Zero before. I’m such a good housewife.
–  Why must Netflix create shows that are so addicting that you basically get sucked into a black hole? Here’s looking at you 13 Reasons Why.
– Why must this province have a Shop Closing Act? Seriously, it makes being productive on long weekends very difficult. I mean, everything was closed Friday and Sunday this past weekend,it makes doing a basement renovation during our days off a challenge.
– Why is my husband so resistant to doing a reclaimed lumber wall in our basement? I thought reclaimed lumber was the dream of all rugged men.
– How can I get paid to vacation? Because our honeymoon was freaking awesome.
Okay, so I’ll definitely be ordering my favourite foundation during the sale. But, that’s probably all, because budget. What’s on your mind lately?
Did you take advantage of the VIB Sale?

February Is The New January

If I’m being honest, I’m not great at setting goals and following through. I’ve never met a new years resolution I couldn’t break within the first two weeks. And yes I know, January is already over, and February is here,  but its better late than never to start this whole New Year, New Me thing right?

Be more active
Yes. I want to lose weight. And being more active will certainly help me achieve that. But more so than that, I want to feel better about myself. I don’t want to feel lazy. And I want to be healthy. I want my body to be strong.

Eat healthier
I love food. Looooooove food. But indugling in all of my favourites, all of the time has wreaked havoc on my body. I don’t feel good when I look in the mirror. And I feel guilty about how unhealthy I eat all of the time. I don’t want to feel that way anymore. Healthier food choices will help. I want to find foods that I love to eat, but won’t make me feel guilty. And maybe eventually, when I do indulge, I won’t have to feel guilty about that either.

Cook more
One of the reasons I don’t eat healthy is because I don’t cook enough. Jeff and I eat take out far too often. And when we don’t its usually a frozen pizza, or nachos, or a side kick.

One of the main reasons I don’t cook is lack of preparation. I don’t put a lot of thought into what to make or eat until its time to start cooking. Which rarely works out, because I’m lacking ingredients. So meal planning is likely going to have to happen.

I’m also not very confident in the kitchen.  I don’t feel like I’m a great cook. I want to push myself to try more things. Because I’ll never get better without practice.

“Live” More
For the most part, life is good and I am happy. But both Jeff and I feel like we’re spending too much of our lives at home, doing nothing. Watching tv, or YouTube videos. Basically watching other people live their lives instead of living their own. And we want to change that. That isn’t to say that I’m swearing off tv (we all know that I love my shows too much for that), but those shows can be recorded. We want to spend more time getting off our asses. We want to snowmobile, and snow shoe. Go skiing and snowboarding. Spend our weekends hiking or camping. We want to make memories.

Blog More
I love writing. I really do. And I love this blog. But I’ve found it hard to be as committed as I want to be to this little space on the web, because I haven’t been truly “living”. And if you’re not living, and spending copious amounts of time on the couch, what are you supposed to write about?

I’d ask what your goals and resolutions are, but its February. So instead, have you kept your resolutions? How is it going?

My Sephora VIB Sale Shopping List

I’m kind of really excited about the Sephora VIB sale this weekend. I’ve never been VIB before, so I wasn’t able to take advantage of the deals.

This year though, this year, I’ve dropped enough of my hard earned cash to be eligible for the 20% discount.

I’ve got a few products I’d like to restock, and I’ve got my eye on a few things that I’ve wanted for a while, and might pick up now that I can get them a little cheaper.

MUFE Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation – I was looking for a good foundation for the days before and after my wedding so I picked up a few samples in store. This one was the clear winner and since I live 8 hours away from the nearest store, Megan was kind enough to deliver it all the way from Edmonton. I had really just hoped to love it enough to wear on special occasions, since its just a bit more expensive than my usual foundation choices. But, I love it so much that I wear it everyday. It does a great job of covering my uneven complexion and still not looking cakey. (I wear color 115 = R230 – Ivory.)

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush – I wear this blush every day. And I have every single day since I discovered it. Well not really discovered, it was a Megan recommendation. I wear the color “Exposed”. Its wonderfully pigmented and a great option for both day and night. (I reviewed it here.)

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer – Another everyday wear (and Megan recommendation, are you seeing the trend here?). I have the darkest under eyes, and this concealer does a great job of covering them. (My review here.)

Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics – I’ve been wanting a Naked palette forever. But I’ve never been able to justify the cost because I can’t guarantee I’d use it often enough. I don’t wear a lot of eyeshadow, mostly because I’m not great at applying it (I don’t practice enough) and because I’m not sure what looks good on me (these hooded eyes are difficult to work with). However, this palette has a pretty good range of neutral colors (which would be good for an eyeshadow newb like me) so while I’m not 100% sure I’ll be purchasing it, I’m giving it serious thought.

Amuse Bouche Mauvember – I’m a sucker for Bite Beauty lipsticks. I’m rolling the dice on this one because mauves usually look pretty good on me, and I love that half of the sales of this lipstick go to the Movember Foundation

Give Me Some Bold Lip – I’m loving all of the colors in this kit.Kate Von D Damned is really calling my name. I have my eye on the Best Bite Redux as well. There’s just too many colors, for too good of a deal to pass them up.

Clinique Clearing Gel – My complexion has been less than awesome for the last year and a half. I haven’t found anything that has help, so I’m thinking of giving this a try. One last ditch effort before I give in and see a dermatologist.

Amuse Bouche Lipstick Duo – One more lippie. They used to call these babies Mingles. And I love them. They’re soooo many interesting color combos available, but I’m pretty sure that if I order one, it will be Opal & Jam.

Will you be taking advantage of the VIB sale? What do you plan to buy?

Just stuff

– Our wedding photos are supposed to take 8 – 12 weeks. We just passed the two month mark. And I’m pretty much dying for the next 4 weeks to pass so I can get my hands on them. The sneak peaks were awesome.

– My excitement over my thank you cards makes me want to do holiday cards. But that requires us getting “family photos” taken. And I’ve kinda let myself go since the wedding, and I feel fat. So maybe next year?

– Jeff and I are finally getting to work on “finishing” our basement. One room at a time. Which means that three years from now we may still be talking about it. But, first on the list, which will definitely see some real progress in the next few months, is our laundry room. You know you’re an adult when laundry rooms excite you. But basically, I’m dying to have a clean, organized (and pretty, sorry Jeff) space to sort and wash all of the things. Its not going to be the largest room, and its going to double as a mudroom so we are definitely going to have to get creative about keeping it bright, and open and still have lots of storage and function. This one from iHeartOrganizing is kind of my inspiration.

– We get maybe 10-15 trick or treaters. So Halloween isn’t really an exciting time around here. I have zero decorations up. This year I planned to get out of the house during the trick or treating and I didn’t have any candy picked up. My plans fell through so I had to ask Jeff to buy some goodies for him. I reminded him that we didn’t need much, just enough to not have to turn off all of the lights and hide when kids came up the driveway. I came home from work to find four boxes. My waistline is not impressed.

– Have you seen the new show, Pitch? If not, and you like sports even the slightest bit, or even if you don’t, you should check it out. Sooooo good.

– Thanks to this post by Karli, I decided to order our wedding thank you cards from Minted. And you guys, I’m soooo freakin’ excited for them to get here. Fingers crossed they turn out as awesome as I expect.

– I used to love when Jeff worked night shifts. It was a great time to catch up on all my girly shows, and be lazy. These days though, I’d gladly give up the shows, for evenings doing anything at all with him. Basically our love is pretty gross right

– I’m a sucker for most things plaid. I NEED to own these. Seriously, Jeff, if you’re reading this, I’ll take a pair for Christmas. Size 8.

End of ramble.

From Coveting Life this week:

– Where I’m at

Where I’m At

Dressed head to toe in #WinnersFabFinds. Similar shoes here.

Its 10:05 and I sat down to work at this post like 3 hours ago. And I’m just now finally typing the first words.

The thing is, I’m not really sure where to start. I’ve never really been awesome at this blogging game. But I want to be. And I psych myself out on the regular.

A lot of things have happened since my last post in July. So maybe instead of some long winded soliloquy I’ll just make a list. Lists are cool right?

– I found myself an awesome gym buddy. Meg. She rocks. And she helped whip my ass into shape. I lost a few pounds. My wedding dress fit. And then I put em all back on, indulging in all of my favorite terrible things the past 8 weeks. Here’s to getting back in the gym very soon.

– Speaking of wedding dresses. I got married. It was almost everything I had dreamed it would be. All the let downs aside, it was still the best day of my life.

– The night before our wedding, my guy gave me this Kate Spade necklace that I have been swooning over for years. Admittedly, he may have had a little help with the idea. But its the thought that counts. Thanks Megan 😉

– Jeff and I have yet to go on a honeymoon. Not because we didn’t want one or desperately need a vacation. But because Jeff’s property maintenance business was still in the heights of its busy season. And extended time away just wasn’t possible.

– We did go on a bit of a minimoon to St. John’s. It was short. But it was amazing to get out of town for a few days.

– We chose our minimoon date entirely based on when Bed Bath and Beyond would be giving us 20% off the entire store as a thank you for having our registry with them. Highly recommend it.

– Thankgiving (for us Canadians) has came and went. I had three, yes three, turkey dinners. And now I’m okay with no turkey until Christmas.

– My cousin bought a house and I helped her do some amazing renovations and turn it into a wicked vaction/short term rental.

– I went on my very first work trip. It was as great experience, but I did learn that I need to invest in a pantsuit. There is really nothing worst than sitting in a conference with a bunch of your peers feeling terribly inferior and under dressed.

– I grew tired of having limp, no volume, lifeless hair. And I decided to get a perm. (You probably know that if you follow me on Snapchat). And I walked out of the salon less $200, and with straight hair. I was not pleased. My stylist suggest trimming a few inches off to see if having less weight would put a little spring into it. 4-6 inches later, still no curl. So, there will likely be another go at the perm in the near future.

– Jeff turned 29 last week. So I got all of his friends together for a Lumberjack Bash to celebrate on Saturday. Complete with freebie decorations I found on Pinterest. Sure whoever made them intended they be used for a toddlers birthday, but that’s okay.

I feel like there’s more. But I’m drawing a blank. So, cheers to being back. Lets hope its for longer this time.

10 Things On A Friday

How beautiful is my current view of Corner Brook Harbour.

– Jeff and I had been planning to have a delayed honeymoon. Perhaps a trip to Florida in February or March. But no we’re thinking we would like to have a bit of a mini-moon before that. I’ve been looking at flights to NYC. Any recommendations on where to stay or what to do while we are there (if we go)?

– It had been quite warm here the past few weeks. Too hot to sleep some nights even. But it was so cold this morning that we had to light our wood stove.

– Jeff’s parents were in town the weekend before last for his Nan’s 90th birthday. We love when they visit, especially when there’s something to celebrate while they are here.

– The last time they were in town, we celebrated our engagement, now we are one day less than two months away from the big day.

– Jeff’s dad made like five batches of fudge while he was here. My taste buds are happy, my waistline is not.

– Rowing has started up again, and being on the water again is giving me life.

– I really need to find a new lipstick to replace my Bite Beauty in Violet. Its almost completely used up, and is no longer available 🙁

– Work has been incredibly busy, incredibly frustrating, yet incredibly rewarding lately. I’m exhausted at the end of the day, hence my lack of a presence around here. But I’m hoping to find a little balance.

– Jeff had to work almost the entire long weekend. He went to work Friday morning, and I didn’t really see him again until Sunday afternoon. And that was only for 3 hours.

– It was a sunny 13 degrees here this afternoon. It certainly wasn’t tropical, but I had a lovely lunch with a coworker at Harbour Grounds. The place was so busy that we had no other choice but eat at a table on the patio. The food was so delicious that I didn’t even mind getting a bit chilly. Highly recommend checking the place out if you ever find yourself in Corner Brook.

How have you been spending your summer so far?
