America Does This Better

I’ve come to the conclusions that Americans do Fall way better that us Canadians. Mostly because their Thanksgiving is an entire month after ours, which means they get to relish in all things Autumn decor for much longer.

In Canada, at least the places I’ve lived, Fall, Autumn, Harvest is something we really only indulge in for about 15 days. Things don’t start cooling down until late September, early October. Pumpkins and gourds aren’t ripe for the picking until that time. We gear up and decorate for Thanksgiving, then if you have kids, your lovely fall decor gets pushed aside for Halloween, and then its over. We’re stuck with our undecorated, holidayless homes until December.

We really could hang on to our reds, and oranges and browns longer than we do, I think we just all look at it as holiday decor, and once Thanksgiving is over, so is all the loveliness. We should really do something about that. Next year, I am, I swear.

And since this post is all about decor (because I’m obsessed) here are five fall decor pieces I’m really loving right now.

Fall Decor

Pillow – I’m developing a bit of a cute pillow addiction. Our couches are full, and my fiance is becoming slightly annoyed. But I can’t help it. They just add so much to the space. And I love how warm and cozy and inviting they make our living room look.
Mug – Cooper has always been one of my favourite metals and I’ve been known to like adorable mugs. Plus, it holds alcohol and doesn’t have a feminine look so JW won’t hate it. #winning.
Antler – JW is a hunter. He sometimes talks about wanting trophies in the house. Thats never going to happen, but maybe a fake, pretty looking one will appease him. #fingerscrossed
Fig – Its cute, its shiny. Its traditional with a touch of modern. I’ll take it.
Napkins – I’m loving the color in these and while I’m not typically a cloth napkin (at home) kinda girl, but these would look great at our next Friendsgiving.
Pumpkin – The real deal doesn’t last long around here, especially inside, so we have to turn to fakes. I know this one is far from traditional, but the price is pretty good, and I’ve always kind of liked adding interesting pieces to a decor scheme.
Log Holder – This beauty has so many options. It could hold logs, or pillows and throws, or be a drink bucket.
Doormat – This time next year JW and I will be married, and we’d be a “real” family. This lovely would look great on our front step.
Not surprisingly almost all of these beauties are from #Target. And now that they FINALLY ship to Canada, my poor little bank account is going to be toast.

Why Does This Season Have To Be So Stressful

I’ve been MIA the past few weeks. I’ve been unbelievably busy, almost nerve-wreckingly so. But I’ve missed this place, and I’m glad to be back.

Between getting things ready for year end at work, studying for my final, and getting ready for Christmas, I’m surprised I’m not bald or completely grey. But thankfully the end is almost here.

I had a trial run for my hair for the wedding that is THIS Saturday. Cannot believe how fast time is flying.
And those are the earrings I plan to wear.
But not that lipstick, because my entire family hated it. Booourns.
And then I went to my first ever bachelorette party.
 Debrah’s massive Bachelorette Bitch glass.
All but one of the bridesmaids and the bride.
It was pretty snowy outside so we decided not to rock heels for the occasion.
We had a bit of a snowstorm Sunday night. I had to walk home from my cousin’s house in this mess.
And then I woke up to this.
There’s supposed to be a set of steps there somewhere.
My car drifted in, and the plow bank was higher than the front of my car.
I really don’t mind shoveling and snowblowing my driveaway. Its exercise and it gets me off the couch and out in to the fresh air. But I’d really really prefer to not have to get up at 6am to do it.
But on a positive note, its beginning to look a lot like Christmas. And yes, I sang along in my head as I wrote that.
I’m almost done my Christmas shopping. Maybe only one or two things left to get. I left most of my shopping until the last few weeks, because I had to study for that stupid final exam in Macroeconomics, and because I kinda had to spread out the spending.
And because I left it until basically the last minute I’ve been stressed, because I had no clue what to get anyone. And for most people I can use gift cards as a back up plan. But not for my mom. I had a bunch of ideas, but none of them were panning out. And I spent all of yesterday panicking about not having anything for her. So much so that I may have broke down and cried about it after work last evening. But someone somewhere must have heard my sobs, because when I went to the mall last night I decided to go back to Pseudio on a whim just in case they had what I was looking for, and they did! And obviously I can’t say what I bought, because someone, ahem Shelley, told my mom all about this little piece of the interwebz.
And then I went to Target, and discovered that every.single.piece of clothes that I fell in love with since the store opened had been moved to the clearance section for $5 each!!! Which just really sealed the deal on it being a fantastic night, because I bought a few items for myself, and snagged a gorgeous blazer for my friend for Christmas. So you should definitely keep an eye out around these parts next week, cause I’ll be wearing those lovelies for sure.
And I’m going to stop rambling now, because I’m sure your sick of it and its soon quitting time aka 5 o’clock, and I have to go celebrate the first birthday of this adorable face.
Happy Birthday Jesse Bear!

Losing My Virginity

I’ve been wanting to visit a Target for quite a while now. In fact I totally planned on going to one on my trip to Maine last year, but we didn’t manage our time very well and weren’t able to squeeze it in. I was pretty bummed out. Needless to say, I’ve been really looking forward to the roll out of the stores in Canada. And yesterday it FINALLY opened in my city. And I went there straight after work of course.

I really wasn’t sure what to expect. A few of my family members visited stores in the good ol’ US of A and said they weren’t impressed and that it was nothing special. But so many people in Blogland seem to love it. I’m so sick of shopping at Wallyworld all of the time, that I had my fingers and toes crossed that my family was wrong, and all of the wonderful ladies I follow on Bloglovin’ were right.

The verdict: It was fantabulous!

I loved it. Really truly did. It was bright, and airy, and just really really pretty compared to Walmart. I’m a sucker for wide aisles, good lighting, and clean sight lines, and this store had all of it. I was in heaven as soon as I walked in, and that was before I laid my eyes on my favoritist place ever….Starbucks! Two awesome additions to my city on one day, color me happy.

Let’s talk clothes. The ladies department was a wee bit smaller than I would have hoped, but they packed in a really solid selection. The prices seemed to be pretty decent and the quality seemed good as well. I found a lot of things I really liked. There were so many pieces that were just the perfect mixture of stylish and professional. I took a few pics to share with you, but mostly so I could send my mom a few ideas of what Santa could bring me for Christmas.

If Starbucks and the clothing department weren’t enough to make this little shopaholic’s heart swell with glee, then it nearly burst out of my chest when I discovered the home decor. Unbelievable selection. So many pretty things, and such amazing prices. It had my bank account running scared.

This pretty baby is going to be a prop in my friend Debrah’s wedding pictures.

While I found so many things I wanted right then and there, I was able to keep myself under control, and managed to walk out the store only $60 poorer. With a Christmas gift and prop for Debrah’s wedding picture. Successful evening for sure!

The only downside was that I couldn’t find a shoe department. And that isn’t cool at all.

But don’t worry Target, I’ll be back, very very soon.
