The Best Weekend There Ever Was

I had the best weekend! I spent the weekend in St. John’s with my cousin Shelley. My friend Jennifer was supposed to be in town, but she scored a really great last minute deal to Cuba, so she was busy soaking up the sun.

It may have been a bit of a drive. Okay, 8 hours is more than a bit, but it was totally worth it. I had so much fun, that I hardly took any pictures. Not very “blogger” of me I know, I did the best I could to remember, but its hard to take pictures of a ton of stuff without your friends looking at you like you’re crazy, cause they don’t have a sweet clue about this little space in the blogosphere.

Anyways, I did the best I could, with the terrible memory and lack of stealthy picture taking skills. So without further ado, here’s a little photo evidence of my extra long weekend shenanigans…

I over estimated how much gas I had, so I had to stop in some tiny little town in the middle of nowhere to gas up. It was the first time I had ever seen an atm outside in a parking lot.
I took Friday off from work so that I wouldn’t have to drive after dark, and I timed my arrival in St. John’s for just before dinner. Shelley took me downtown to this amazing little restaurant called Piatto. It was freakin’ amazing. I could probably eat there every day if I lived in SJ. The atmosphere was great, and the food was better. Great tasting and reasonably priced. If you’re ever in the area you have to go.
Saturday the weather was amazing. Sunny and warm. We spent the afternoon walking around downtown St. John’s and I’m super bummed that I didn’t take any pictures because it is beautiful and full of cute shops and wonderful historic architecture. Two things I LOVE.
We went to George Street for a late lunch and ate on the patio at Greensleeves because it was just too nice to eat anywhere other than in the sun. I had the Jumbo Shrimp Stirfry which was too spicy for my liking, never thought such a thing was possible, but overall it was pretty good. And of course I washed it down with an ice cold Coors Light
Thankfully I did remember to take a few pictures of Cabot Tower and the view from Signal Hill
***A little history lesson for you: Cabot Tower stood witness to possibly the most important accomplishment in modern communications – the reception of the first wireless transatlantic signal by Guglielmo Marconi from his Poldhu Wireless Station, in Cornwall, England.
That little point of land on the left hand side of the picture with the white specks is Cape Spear, the most eastern point of North America.
It was strange to stand there and look out at the ocean and realize that the closest land out there is Europe.
Saturday evening we met up with Shelley’s friend Nancy at the Yellowbelly Brewery & Public House for beers and pub food. My absolute fave kinda meal. I had never been to this place but you can bet your bottom dollar I’ll be going there again on my next trip to the city. It had an amazing vibe, amazing food, huge portions, and ridiculously cheap prices.
We ordered three appys between us. Vegetarian nachos (perhaps the best nachos I have ever had. ever.), mussels, and deep fried potato chips. The servings were so big that we couldn’t eat it all. And it came to a whopping $14.30 each. You can’t beat that.
Seriously, these two plates of mussels were $12. Total, not each. Crazy cheap right?

Shelley gave me this great shirt she had bought from Scotch & Soda that didn’t quite fit her right. Gotta love friends with similar style and clothing sizes. I tried to be stealthy and take a picture while we were out’n’about but it didn’t quite turn out. Points for effort?

Of course Sunday meant a little more shopping and we went to one of my favorite stores, Envy. It can be a little pricey, but the clothes are excellent quality, and they have ahhhmazing sales. My bank account is thankful that the nearest store is a 7 hour drive.
Of course Sunday also meant more to die for food. We went to City Lights Chinese Buffet. I only have one word for the experience. Yum.
We topped the night off by going to see the delectable Channing Tatum in White House Down. I decided to get a cinnamon pretzel instead of my usual popcorn, because they shut it down at our mall (booourns). I really liked the movie, not sure if it was because it was good, or because of the man candy.
Monday meant it was time to pack up and head home. You know you bought a lot when your trunk and back seat are so full that you have to pile things in the front seat as well.

There was no way I was leaving town without visiting my beloved Starbucks one last time.
I miss you already.
At least the weather was great the entire drive home. It made the day slightly less depressing.
I had such a great time, I’m already planning my next visit.
And although I’m a day late due to my extra long Canada Day weekend, I’m linking up over at Sami’s Shenanigans.
Sami's Shenanigans

I’m stealing this idea from Erin

PS. This is a scheduled post because while you’re reading this, I’m taking advantage of the fact that my coworker is on vacation and rearranging & decluttering the office (I should totally do a before and after) because she won’t let me. Yes, you read that right. I wait for her to go on vacation, and overhaul the office, and do all the things she won’t let me do when she’s around. Hope she said goodbye to all of the things she has hoarded hahaha.

So, without further ado, currently I am…

Eating: Leftover pepperoni, bacon, and ground beef pizza from Pizza Delight.

Drinking: Gin & Tonic with Lime

Purchasing: Nadda. Because I’m saving my money for my trip to St. John’s this weekend. And you better believe I have a “little” bit of shopping planned for while I’m there.
Looking forward to: The above mentioned trip to St. John’s for some girl time with these ladies.
Watching: Monday’s episode of Switched at Birth. Yay for PVR!
Loving: Little Miss Momma’s Love Story. Pretty sure reading it was what actually inspired me to try this blogging thing for real.
Listening to: Can’t Stop – Miley Cyrus
Reading: Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns by Lauren Weisberger. I loved The Devil Wears Prada so I squealed a little when I seen this one on the shelves. Hoping they make it a movie as well.
Craving: A pint of Ben & Jerry’s Half Baked. And I’d eat alllll of it.
Feeling: Super lazy and exhausted from my run. The pouring rain outside doesn’t help my energy level.
Peacing out: Because of the being lazy and wanting to flake out on the couch.
