Sunday’s, Blizzards, and Sea Ice

I’m lying in bed right now. The only light in the room comes from the glow of my iPhone. The windy is whistling outside as snow beats against the windows. I’m bunkered down for a long winter nap.

It’s Sunday night, and I should be asleep, but I’m not ready to give in. Sunday nights I always feel the need to be productive. Laundry gets done, rooms get tidied, and blog posts get written (whether or not they see the light of day is another matter for another day). I’m not sure if this urge comes from panic, that things I’ve put off all weekend need to get done, or if I’m trying to distract myself from the reality that bright and early the next day I’ll be back at the grind.
Right now there’s a blizzard happening outside, and I’m hoping it lasts well into tomorrow, but I know it will have subsided by the time I have to get up. But a girl can dream can’t she.
I’d love a snow day with J.W. We haven’t had one together yet. Laziness on the couch, hot chocolate, Netflix marathons, tournaments of Phase 10, it all sounds a little wonderful. Except snow days are few and far between for me, and he’s out of town anyways.

We spent another great weekend at the cabin with my parents. We got up early and headed back to town today so J.W. could go on his annual snowmobile trip with his friends. Early rises on Sunday’s are not how we roll, and the drive back seemed longer than ever. We were cold and tired, but we made the best of it by stopping and taking some pictures of the ice along the shoreline. We’ve been admiring the way it has pushed towards shore and piled up. I’m over winter but I’ve got to admit that there’s something beautiful about it.

But I’m going to stop rambling now. Hope you all enjoyed your weekend!

Oh Hey, Friday! | February Five

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve participated in a link up, and I don’t know why, cause I love them. oh hey, Friday is my favorite since there are basically no rules. And I’m a girl who enjoys having no rules from time to time.
My Five | A February Recap

1. J. Dubbs bought a new hat with winkers (ear flaps) and some silly photo shoots have ensued.

2. First Valentine’s Day with J.W. was my first real Valentine’s, ever. And let me tell you, he did not disappoint.

Fruit just tastes better covered in chocolate and shaped like a heart.

3. I’m trying to learn more about make up. So I signed up for Ipsy and got my first Glam Bag. I haven’t tried all of the products yet, but its been fun adding new things to my collection, and playing around. I knew it was going to be great as soon as it arrived, because nothing bad shows up in a metallic fuchsia envelope! That eyeliner has a sharpener in its cover (lid?) how cool is that?! #ipsylove

4. I love home decor. Seriously. And any chance I get I like to revamp spaces, so I’m taking advantage of the Target Canada liquidations. Last week, I did a mini revamp in my bathroom. I had intended to go for a spa-like look, and nothing they had really suited that. But I’m loving the results anyways.
Before and After
5. I turned 28 on the 28th. It was my golden birthday, and I had a pretty golden weekend. I got to spend it at the cabin with my parents, brother and J.W., some of the people I love most. And while it wasn’t wild or even terribly exciting, I loved it.
I’ve been swooning over this bar cart at Target for like ever. J.W. sure knows how to give a good gift.

The view from the front deck of my parents cabin. I can’t get enough.

My Grandfather cut a skidoo trail up the side of Blue Mountain. My Dad, J.W. and I decided to ride up it on Sunday. It was a beautiful day and it was so nice to do something that would have made my Pop so proud. It was the perfect way to end a wonderful weekend.

The Very Best Way to Spend Your Boyfriend’s Night Shift

“So what are you going to do while I’m at work? Go shopping? Do laundry? Clean the apartment and get ready for Linda’s visit? Visit Erika?”

Every time my boyfriend works a night shift we have the same conversation before he heads out. He asks what my plans are for while he’s at work, I reply that I don’t know, perhaps maybe a little tv and some housework, all the while I know quite well that very little productivity will occur.

So what do I do when J.W. isn’t here?

1. Plop on the couch as soon he’s out the door, and spend most of the evening there.

2. Take hot baths with candles and wine or beer.

3. Eat an embarrassing amount of ice cream, cookies and sweets. Likely all at once.

4. Drink sugar coma inducing amounts of Pepsi.

5. Watch all the tv shows he’s not into like Chasing Life, Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder.

6. Rearrange my shoe and purse collections.

7. Pin eleventy billion outfits I wish I owned

8. Test out the products in my new Ipsy Glam Bag. Its best to do this while the bf is away, especially if you told him you weren’t going to spend anymore money on make up. #oops

9. Read a book, its always so hard to concentrate when they’re around. Amiright?

10. Do whatever the hell I want, where whatever you want, no one is around to judge me. #nobra #sweatpants #sorrynotsorry

Basically I revert back to my SSB.

What do you do when your boyfriend/husband isn’t around?
